How to Use the AstroMap Generator

This interactive map is designed to help you explore how different locations around the world connect with your birth chart through astrocartography.

If you're new to Astrocartography or unsure about what it is, you can learn more here.

Below is a quick guide to understanding how the map works and how to explore it with confidence.

1. Generating Your Map

To begin:

  1. Enter your birth data (date, time, and place of birth).
  2. Click Generate Map.
  3. Your personalized astrocartography map will load.

Once generated, you'll see planetary lines mapped across the world, along with a marker showing your birthplace.

2. Understanding the Lines on the Map

Each line on the map represents a planet interacting with one of the four primary astrological angles.

Line Styles (Angles)

Each angle has a distinct visual style:

These styles help you quickly identify how a planet is operating in a location.

You can filter which line types are visible on the map using the filter buttons labeled by the angles (MC, IC, AC, DC) located in the controls section above the map.

3. In Mundo vs Zodiacal

The map can show planetary lines in two calculation modes:

Toggle between In Mundo and Zodiacal using the buttons in the controls above the map. In-mundo view is recommended for standard astrocartography.

4. Map Themes

You can change the look of the map to suit your preference:

Select a theme using the Map theme buttons in the controls. Your choice is usually remembered for your next visit.

5. Planetary Colors & Symbols

On desktop, the legend appears in a sidebar to the right of the map. On mobile, it appears below the map. The legend shows:

This legend allows you to match each line on the map to the planet and angle it represents.

6. Interacting With the Map

Hovering or Clicking on Lines

When you hover over or click a line:

Birthplace Marker

7. Crossing Details

When you click a planetary line, a Crossing details panel or section appears with information about that crossing—for example, the planet and angle (e.g. Venus MC), line longitude, and the latitude/longitude of the point you clicked.

You can move the Crossing details window. On desktop, drag the panel by its title bar ("Crossing details") to place it wherever you like on the screen so it doesn't cover the map. On smaller screens, crossing details may appear in a fixed sidebar below the legend instead.

8. Measuring Distance & Orb of Influence

The map includes a ruler tool that allows you to measure distances between:

This feature is especially useful for astrocartography, where proximity matters.

Many astrologers work with an orb of influence, meaning a line can still be felt even if you are not directly on top of it. You can use the ruler to check whether a location falls within your preferred radius or degree-based orb from a line.

Important: After completing your measurements using the ruler tool, you must hit "Clear" and deselect the ruler tool to disable the function on the map.

9. A Note on Accuracy & Ephemeris Data

This map is generated using a different ephemeris and calculation engine than some other popular astrological software or websites (such as astro.com).

Because of this:

The calculations are very close, and accuracy is something we are actively refining and improving over time.

Astrocartography involves complex astronomical and geometric calculations, and small differences between systems are normal across astrology software.

For best accuracy, use a professional grade astrological software that has the Astro-locality feature.
